How much does the
6 SINNE KÜCHE cost?
Or: That's too expensive for me!
Baked goods made from flours that cost 15 euros per kg and meat products, eggs and dairy products from grass-fed organic animals sound unaffordable.
You have to save on food!
This mantra is preached like a prayer wheel, and not only in times of "inflation". And while a wasteful lifestyle has already cost great powers their existence within a short space of time, there is a price to be paid for consistently saving on food.
First of all: we spend more on food in our household than the average Austrian. So if you want to open the drawer at this point and say "I knew it", then you can safely stop reading at this point. For those who are interested, I need to expand a little beforehand: I was interested in the following: How much do we in Austria as an economy spend on food? I got the answer from Statistics Austria:
The average expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages in 2020 was 392 euros per household per month.
To put this figure into perspective, it should be said at this point that at some point, people worked to feed themselves and their families. Currently, however, this expenditure on food only accounts for around 4% of GDP. Guess how much we spend on our healthcare system compared to that? Not on the pension system, but quite simply on hospitals, medicines, doctors...
More on this in a moment...
How much does "health" cost?
Or: What can we afford?
In 2022, direct healthcare expenditure in Austria amounted to almost 53 billion euros. That's around 11% of GDP or around 1,000 euros per household per month.
Further comparative figures: we spend 436 euros on leisure, hobbies and sport; 1,000 euros on housing and furnishings and 194 euros on visits to cafés and restaurants.
What I want to say is that it is up to everyone to decide for themselves, within their own means, how much money they want to spend. Far be it from me to try to convince anyone or to judge anyone.
In my case, food that helps me achieve the following goals has a higher value in my life:
- Provide my body with a high nutrient density.
- To keep my body's exposure to harmful substances as low as possible
- To be able to celebrate every meal as a pleasure and appreciate my food
IS IT ALL A QUESTION OF QUANTITY?
How much can it be?
Over time, my philosophy has also led to an exciting phenomenon: Thanks to the high nutrient density and constant blood sugar levels , I rarely feel hungry anymore. I have settled down to eating only once a day on average. And within this meal, I can hardly "eat" as much money as I used to with breakfast, lunch, dinner and all the snacks throughout the day...
